Joseph Harrison (1798 - 1856) was a British horticultural engineer and editor of horticultural magazines. In 1833, Harrison Joseph founded "The Floricultural Cabinet and Florists" Magazine, a journal for professional and home gardeners, florists, and others. With Joseph Paxton, Harrison edited the Horticultural Register in 1831, a summary and survey of other publications. In 1833 he launched an inexpensive monthly magazine, the Floricultural Cabinet, which was successful; nearly 60,000 copies were sold in the first nine months. Each issue was illustrated with a beautiful botanical color plate that accurately depicted the characteristics of each flower. The magazine appeared monthly from March 1833 to 1859, and after his death in 1859, his sons converted it to a weekly and called it Gardener's Weekly Magazine and Floricultural Cabinet. They sold it in 1861, and as The Gardener's Weekly it remained in print until 1916. Harrison was also editor of The Gardener's and Forester's Record, with practical gardening tips, and from 1852 of The Garden Almanack.
