Historical Description

The Rigi, is a mountain massif between Lake Lucerne, Lake Zug and Lake Lauerz in central Switzerland. The Rigi was known early for bathing cures and pilgrimages. As early as 1540, the healing properties of the Rigi cold spring were mentioned for the first time. In the 18th century, the Rigi was known throughout Switzerland as an excursion and vacation destination thanks to its excellent location on Lake Lucerne. m 1816, the first wooden guesthouse was built on the Kulm. This construction was significantly supported by the Zurich panorama draftsman Heinrich Keller. Visitors can enjoy a panoramic view of Lake Lucerne and the nearby Alps, as well as to the north into the Mittelland. The mountain offers various leisure activities such as hiking, sledding, skiing, cross-country skiing, paragliding, carriage rides and nostalgic rides with a turn-of-the-century steam locomotive.
