Kurt (also Curt) Meyer-Eberhardt, actually Kurt Ernst Meyer, artist name with the mother's maiden name since 1916, was a German painter, graphic artist and illustrator. Since the mid-1920s, its existence has increasingly been shaped by the dual nature of artistic bread-making - through animal etchings as well as common hunting pictures - and independent work in "inner emigration". Meyer-Eberhardt's watercolors and pastels of circus poodles (late 1920s / early 1930s) and his cycle of war horses Memento mori (from 1945) are considered a sensitive, also time-critical contribution to the animal portrait, while people disappear from their work in the second creative phase. Another complex of works that has continued to the end of life includes interiors and still lifes, as well as landscapes of the Munich area and the Mediterranean (since the 1930s, with hints of Paul Cézanne). | |
