Historical Description | La Rochelle was first mentioned in a document in 1240. In the Middle Ages, the village belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and within it to the area of the Bailliage d'Amont. La Rochelle formed a lordship that belonged to the noble Vergy family. It was a small castle town. Since 1658, the Morey monastery was authorized to collect tithes in La Rochelle. Together with Franche-Comté, the village definitely passed to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. |
