Leo Schöninger (born 21 January 1811 in Weil der Stadt; died 20 December 1879 in Munich) was a German painter, lithographer and graphic artist. | |
Historical Description | Emperor Franz Joseph I ruled the Austrian Empire, and from 1867 the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy, from 1848 until his death in 1916, making him one of the longest-reigning monarchs in European history. His reign witnessed profound political and economic change, as well as growing national tensions within the empire. The Austro-Hungarian Monarchy was established through the Austro-Hungarian Compromise of 1867. The assassination of his nephew, Archduke Franz Ferdinand, in 1914 triggered the outbreak of the First World War. Franz Joseph I died during the war in 1916 and remains a symbol of the Habsburg Monarchy. |
