Historical Description

Kufstein Fortress is one of the most impressive medieval fortifications in Tyrol. Its history reflects the border location between Bavaria and Tyrol/Austria. The first castle was built in the 13th century as a border and customs fortress on the River Inn and controlled trade between Bavaria and Tyrol. A castle complex was first mentioned around 1205–1213. The builders were the Bishops of Regensburg as feudal lords. Today, it is one of the most famous historical monuments in Tyrol.
