Historical Description | Přelouč was first mentioned in 1086 as a foundation property of the Benedictine monastery of Opatowitz. In 1261, Přemysl Ottokar II granted the monastery a town privilege for Přelouč. The Opatowice monks founded a provostry in Přelouč at the end of the 14th century. In 1560, Přelouč became a royal chamber lordship and in 1580 was elevated to a royal chamber town by Emperor Rudolf II. Economic development stagnated in the 17th and 18th centuries. It was not until the connection to the Prague - Olomouc railroad line that an economic upturn began. Přelouč was a district town from 1850-1960. |
