Title | Portrait of a man of the Sandwich Islands in a Mask. / Representation of a man of the Sandwich Islands dancing. |
Two highly sought-after engravings of Captain Cook's voyage and visit to the Sandwich Islands, the first showing the famous helmet portrait and the second a dancing Hawaiian. The scene was sketched by John Webber, a talented young artist who accompanied Captain James Cook on his third voyage to the Pacific in 1776-1780. From ‘Engraved for Baldwyn's New System of Universal Geography.’ George Augustus Baldwyn's edition is relatively rare, with only six complete copies in libraries worldwide. | |
