Archienprenta Plantiniana: This printing house was a significant institution in the 16th and 17th centuries, founded by Christoffel Plantijn, a Belgian printer and publisher. The press was known for its quality and influence on religious and scientific printing in Europe. Christoffel Plantin (1520-1589) made his publishing house a meeting place for prominent humanists such as Justus Lipsius. In 1570, he received a monopoly from the strictly Catholic Spanish King Philip II and the Church to print all liturgical books for Spain, the Spanish Netherlands, and Spain's colonies. At the same time, Plantin became the official printer of the Protestant Dutch General States. After Plantin's death, the Leiden branch of the press was taken over by his son-in-law Franciscus Raphelengius the Elder (1539–1597) and Franciscus Joannes Moretus, the son of Joannes Jacobus Moretus, who became the head of the Officina Plantiniana in 1757. The former printing house in Antwerp later became the Plantin-Moretus Museum, which was added to the UNESCO World Heritage list in 2005.

Historical Description

"En La Archienprenta Plantiniana 1739, Oficio de la Semana Santa Según el Missal y Breviario Romano, Que Se Publicaron Por Mandato De Su Santidad" is a religious work published in 1739 by the Archienprenta Plantiniana. The title refers to the Officium de la Semana Santa, the liturgical prayers and rites of Holy Week (Semana Santa) in the Catholic Church, according to the Missale Romanum, the Roman Missal, which contains the rites and prayers for the celebration of the Holy Mass. It includes the specific texts for the celebration of the Eucharist during Holy Week. Similarly, the Breviarium Romanum, the Roman Breviary, contains the prayers and psalms for the daily prayers of priests and monks in the Roman Church. It also provides specific prayers and psalms for Holy Week. The work was published "Por Mandato De Su Santidad" (by order of His Holiness), indicating that the publication was carried out by papal command. This means that it was an official edition authorized by the Catholic Church for liturgical use. The publication of this work was an important contribution to the religious and liturgical practices of the 18th century, as it provided both the faithful and the clergy with an accurate and authorized source for the liturgies of Holy Week. The work is an example of the type of religious printing that supported the spread of Catholic liturgy and knowledge, especially at a time when printing technology played an increasingly central role in the dissemination of church literature and practices. Overall, "Oficio de la Semana Santa" of 1739 is a significant liturgical work that not only underscores the importance of Holy Week for the Catholic Church but also highlights the influence of the Plantiniana Press as a center of religious knowledge and expression in the 18th century.
