Historical Description | Nazareth is a city in Galilee in present-day northern Israel, known as the childhood home of Jesus Christ. The city is first mentioned in historical sources around the 1st century BC and was then a small, insignificant village. In the New Testament, Nazareth is described as the hometown of Jesus and his family, which gives the city a central significance in Christianity. Over the centuries, Nazareth developed into an important pilgrimage site with numerous churches, including the famous Basilica of the Annunciation. Today, Nazareth is the largest Arab city in Israel and an important cultural and religious center. |
