Splendid representation of a “Siciliana” the name given by BESLER to man's blood (lat. Hypericum androsaemum), hard hay (lat. Hypericum bircinum) and spotted hard hay or St. John's wort (lat. Hyperium maculatum). In 1613, the first edition of the magnificent Hortus Eystettensis was published, produced by the pharmacist, botanist, collector, engraver and publisher Basilius Besler from Nuremberg. 2013 was the 400th anniversary of the first edition!
