Plate 283 shows four magnificent depictions of a flat-leaved man's bedstraw (lat. Eryngium planum) and three hyssop plants (lat. Hyssopus officinalis). The flowering tops of hyssop, which is often grown as a culinary herb, are used for brewing and medicinal tea mixtures or for extracting essences. In 1613, the first edition of the magnificent work Hortus Eystettensis was published, produced by the pharmacist, botanist, collector, engraver and publisher Basilius Besler from Nuremberg - the 400th anniversary of the first edition was celebrated in 2013!
