Trachsler Hermann (1803-1861)

Hermann Trachsler (1803–1861) was a Zurich-based engraver, art dealer and publisher. He came from a family of Zurich publishers and, in the 19th century, published numerous small-format views of Switzerland, particularly landscapes and townscapes. Some of his works were produced in collaboration with other draughtsmen and engravers.

Historical Description

Cully is a historic village on the shores of Lake Geneva in the Canton of Vaud, Switzerland. Its origins date back to the Middle Ages, when its sheltered location helped it develop into a small trading and wine-growing community. For centuries, viticulture has shaped the village's economy and culture. The surrounding terraced vineyards form part of the famous Lavaux wine region, which was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2007. Cully is especially known for its traditional wine cellars and its picturesque harbor on Lake Geneva. Since 2011, Cully has no longer been an independent municipality but has been part of the municipality of Bourg-en-Lavaux. Today, it is regarded as one of Switzerland's most charming wine villages, combining historic architecture with a centuries-old winemaking tradition and a spectacular lakeside setting.
