Historical Description | Galicia is an autonomous region in northwestern Spain, with Santiago de Compostela as its capital. The region is known for its rugged Atlantic coastline, green landscapes, and Celtic traditions. Galicia has its own language, Galician, which is an official language alongside Spanish. Santiago de Compostela is one of the most important Christian pilgrimage destinations and the final stop on the famous Way of St James (Camino de Santiago). Fishing, agriculture, and tourism play an important role in the region’s economy. Local specialities include seafood, pulpo a la gallega (Galician-style octopus), and Albariño wine. |
