Historical Description | The Alcázar of Segovia is one of the most famous medieval castles in Spain. Its origins date back to the twelfth century, and it later served as a royal residence of the kings of Castile and as an important fortress. In 1764, the Royal Artillery School was established there. A devastating fire on 6 March 1862 destroyed large parts of the building, especially its ornate roofs and interiors. From 1882 onward, the Alcázar was carefully restored according to historical models. Today, it is one of Spain’s most important landmarks and forms part of the UNESCO-listed Old Town of Segovia. |
