Historical Description

Dinant is a historic town on the Meuse River in southern Belgium, located in the Walloon Region (Province of Namur). The town developed during the Middle Ages and became an important trading center due to its strategic location along the river. From the 13th to the 15th century, Dinant was renowned for the production of brassware (known as "Dinanderie") and was under the control of the Prince-Bishopric of Liège. In 1466, the city was destroyed by the troops of Charles the Bold, Duke of Burgundy, after Dinant had rebelled against his rule. Today, Dinant is known for its picturesque setting, its citadel, the Collegiate Church of Notre-Dame, and as the birthplace of Adolphe Sax, the inventor of the saxophone.
