Historical Description | Hannover is the capital of the state of Lower Saxony. After Elector George Louis became George I of Great Britain in 1714 and ascended the British throne, he moved his residence from Hannover to London. As a result, a circle of noble and civil servant families consolidated in the inner administration in Hannover. The residence town, which had previously been heavily dependent on the court, gradually became more desolate. The castle and the Herrenhausen gardens were soon no longer used. It is largely thanks to this circumstance that the garden was not modernized contemporaneously and the original Baroque state was preserved. |
