Historical Description

Delhi is one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world and has been an important political and cultural center of India for centuries. According to legend, Delhi was known as Indraprastha. In the 12th century, Delhi became the capital of Muslim rulers. In 1526, Babur founded the Mughal Empire, which made Delhi a magnificent capital. After the decline of the Mughal Empire, the British took control, and it was officially declared the capital of British India. In 1947, India gained independence, and Delhi became the capital of the Republic of India.
