Historical Description | Dvůr Králové nad Labem Queen's Court on the Elbe ) is a town situated on the upper reaches of the Elbe in the Trutnov district of the Hradec Králové region. The picturesque town lies in the Královédvorská Basin in the east of the Jičín Mountains and on the southern slope of the Krkonoše Mountains. The first documentary mention of the village dates back to 1270. The process of town building in Bohemia and Moravia began under Přemysl Otakar I and did not end under Wenzel I . Nevertheless, the number of towns barely exceeded 25 in the middle of the 13th century. Přemysl Ottokar II gave the pace of urbanization the necessary momentum. The network of royal cities was thus condensed and practically completed, leaving only details for his successors. Přemysl Ottokar II had the city fortified with walls with four gates and just as many towers. |
